The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested chemistry lecturer PV Kulkarni in Pune, identifying him as the alleged kingpin behind the NEET UG paper leak that led to the cancellation of the 2026 entrance examination. Investigators allege Kulkarni, who was linked to the examination process through the National Testing Agency, leaked question papers and answer keys to aspirants during secret tuition sessions. Following the nationwide controversy, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan admitted to lapses in the examination system and acknowledged the need for urgent reforms. The central government has announced a re-examination for affected candidates on June 21 and decided that from next year, the NEET UG will be conducted in a computer-based test mode. The investigation has resulted in the arrest of at least seven accused individuals so far. During a panel discussion, educationist Professor Chandrabushan Sharma questioned the NTA's capability to conduct paper-pencil tests, while security expert Vikram Singh highlighted issues with the agency outsourcing examination processes.
