Ram Mandir trust chief Champat Rai resigns: Is moral responsibility enough?

An investigation into the Ram Temple donation diversion case is intensifying following the registration of a First Information Report. Eight individuals, including counting staffers and a driver, have been arrested for allegedly siphoning cash and valuables donated by devotees. Following the allegations, the general secretary of the temple trust, Champat Rai, and another trustee, Anil Mishra, have stepped down, citing moral responsibility. The Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the money trail and examine security footage to uncover the extent of the embezzlement. With state assembly elections approaching, the political opposition has seized the issue to question institutional oversight and transparency. Leaders from various political factions are demanding an expansion of the probe to include senior management and investigate an alleged land scam. Meanwhile, the state administration has assured strict action, promising a thorough probe into the handling of the public funds.
