Strong surface winds are also likely over Coastal and South Interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema.

The IMD has also predicted a fall of 3-5°C in daytime temperatures across northwest India until July 2 as cloud cover and rainfall increase, while temperatures over the rest of the country are expected to remain largely unchanged.

MONSOON GATHERS MOMENTUM

The southwest monsoon is India's primary rainy season, typically arriving over Kerala around June 1 before gradually advancing across the country.

The monsoon delivers nearly 70% of India's annual rainfall and is crucial for agriculture, reservoirs and drinking water supplies.

According to the IMD, an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal is likely to help form a low-pressure area around July 3.

This, along with other favourable weather systems, is expected to sustain widespread rainfall across many parts of India over the coming days.
