Monsoon Tracker Live: Salman Khan provides relief to Assam flood victims

Actor Salman Khan has launched a relief drive for flood-affected families in Assam through his charitable foundation, Being Human.

The initiative, being carried out in collaboration with the Salman Khan Fan Club (SKFC) Assam, has begun distributing ready-to-eat food packets, drinking water, hygiene essentials and other emergency supplies in some of the worst-hit areas. The relief campaign is expected to be rolled out in multiple phases as Assam continues to recover from the devastating floods.

Monsoon in India: An uneven rainy season continues

India's monsoon continues to paint a mixed picture.

Cumulative rainfall data from June 1 to July 28 shows that 304 districts are facing rainfall deficits and 58 are in the large deficit category, meaning nearly 54% of the country's districts have received below-normal rain so far.

At the same time, only 69 districts have recorded excess or large excess rainfall, highlighting the starkly uneven distribution of this year's monsoon across the country.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the deep depression over Odisha and adjoining parts of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh has continued its westward journey, moving at around 7 kmph.

As of 5:30 am on Wednesday, July 29, the system was centred near Jharsuguda and is expected to track across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh over the next 24 hours, bringing heavy to extremely heavy rainfall to parts of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh.

More rain is set to arrive.

The Char Dham Yatra has been suspended until July 30 after relentless rainfall triggered landslides and blocked multiple pilgrimage routes across Uttarakhand.

Authorities took the precautionary step to ensure the safety of devotees as heavy rain continues to batter the Garhwal region, disrupting road connectivity and hampering travel to the Himalayan shrines.

Officials said the pilgrimage will resume only after weather and road conditions improve.
