The latest ICC Test rankings update on Wednesday, 10 June, has brought major news for Indian cricket fans. India’s Test captain, Shubman Gill, has officially become the country's highest-ranked batter, while pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah comfortably remains the number one bowler in the world.

Shubman Gill has jumped up two places to claim the eighth spot in the global rankings with 743 points. This impressive leap makes him India's top-ranked batter in the longest format of the game, signaling a new era for the national side's batting line-up.

His rise follows a brilliant performance against Afghanistan in the one-off Test match at Mullanpur earlier this month. Capturing the spotlight as skipper, Gill smashed a superb 126 runs off 177 balls in the first innings. He was one of two centurions in that dominant innings, alongside KL Rahul, setting up a massive total and a clinical victory for the hosts.

HARRY BROOK IS THE NEW WORLD NO. 1

On the global stage, England’s Harry Brook has climbed to the absolute top spot, overtaking his legendary teammate Joe Root to become the world's number one Test batter.

Brook reached the summit during England’s recent match against New Zealand at Lord's. On a very challenging pitch that became a major talking point among cricket experts, Brook scored a vital half-century in the first innings—followed by a duck in the second—as England won the game by 115 runs. He took the crown from Root, who had a unusually tough outing, scoring just 9 runs across both innings.

BUMRAH AND KULDEEP DOMINATE BOWLING CHARTS

Among the bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah comfortably holds the top spot in the global rankings with 870 points, even though he was rested and did not play in the Mullanpur Test against Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav jumped up one position to take the 12th spot in the world. His rise followed a brilliant second-innings spell where he took three crucial wickets, helping India secure a dominant victory by an innings and 300 runs.

More red-ball action is scheduled soon, with England set to go after New Zealand once again on June 17 at the Kennington Oval in London.
