Jemimah Rodrigues said India must play with aggression and look to dominate if they are to beat Australia in their Women's T20 World Cup clash at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground on Sunday. Harmanpreet Kaur's side heads into the contest needing a win to keep their semifinal hopes alive.

India have struggled against Australia in the format, winning just 10 of the 38 completed T20Is between the teams since their first meeting in 2008. They also haven't beaten Australia in the Women's T20 World Cup since their 17-run victory in Sydney in 2020, when Poonam Yadav starred with a four-wicket haul.

Jemimah, who struck a brilliant century against Australia in the ODI World Cup semifinal, said India cannot afford to adopt a defensive approach against the six-time champions in London.

"The thing about Australia is that they never let you settle. They are always attacking, always putting pressure. If you want to do well against them, you can't be defensive. You must dominate and take the game to them and our team enjoys that challenge. We know there is no other way. You must match their intensity and stay ahead. That kind of mindset works well for us,” Jemimah said while speaking to JioStar's 'Champions Huddle'.

‘AGGRESSION AND INTENT’

Jemimah, who scored a magnificent century against Australia in the ODI World Cup semifinal, said India cannot afford to be defensive against the six-time champions in London. Instead, she stressed that the team must match Australia's intensity, take the game to them and back themselves to execute their plans.

“Shafali Verma has played a lot against them. Renuka has also bowled well against Australia in the past. Most of our players have good experience against them. We have faced them many times. But on the day, it all comes down to execution. We just need to go out there, back ourselves, and play with that aggressive intent. If we do that, I think everything will fall into place,” Jemimah added.

India strengthened their chances of advancing to the semis when they beat Bangladesh by five wickets on Thursday at the Old Trafford in Manchester. With three wins from four matches, India are second in the table with six points and a net run rate of +2.268.
