India vs Australia, Women's T20 World Cup: Updates | Scorecard
The equation is simple: India must beat Australia. A win will take India to eight points, level with South Africa, but India will advance on the basis of a superior net run rate. A defeat, however, will leave India on six points and eliminate them from the tournament.
Australia are virtually assured of a semifinal berth thanks to their outstanding net run rate of +4.724. South Africa, meanwhile, no longer have their qualification fate in their own hands.
WHO CAME IN FOR INDIA?
India made one change to the side that beat Bangladesh, bringing in fast bowler Kranti Gaud in place of Nandini Sharma. Kranti has endured a difficult tournament so far, going wicketless in her two appearances.
Australia, meanwhile, welcomed back Phoebe Litchfield after she recovered from a quad injury. The left-hander returned to the playing XI at No. 3, replacing leg-spinner Alana King.
Litchfield will carry fond memories into the contest, having scored a superb century against India in the Women's ODI World Cup semifinal in Navi Mumbai last year. She will be hoping for another match-winning knock.
India have won only two of their seven Women's T20 World Cup matches against Australia. Their last victory came in Sydney in 2020, when Poonam Yadav's four-wicket haul guided them to a memorable win.
