The Wankhede Stadium erupted at the toss when it was announced that Rohit Sharma would return to the Mumbai Indians line-up on Monday, May 4. Sharma, who had retired hurt midway through the team’s match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 12, made his comeback against the Lucknow Super Giants.
Stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav confirmed the decision, which was greeted with a loud cheer from the crowd. Suryakumar also revealed that Hardik Pandya was not part of the playing XI due to illness. MI later revealed in a statement that the captain was dealing with back spasms.

Mumbai Indians made key changes their line-up on Monday. While Rohit Sharma returned to the line-up, the franchise decided to rest Hardik Pandya and drop fast-bowler Trent Boult. The New Zealand pacer has not found the same success in the powerplay this season, which promoted MI to bring in Corbin Bosch, who is adept at hitting the hard lengths and bowling searing yorkers at 140 kmph.

Like Mumbai, Lucknow Super Giants made a host of changes as well. LSG brought in Josh Inglis and handed a debut middle-order batter Akshat Raghuvanshi today.
Josh Inglis, who was released by Punjab Kings, was picked up by Lucknow Super Giants for a hefty Rs 8.60 crore. Inglis had earlier informed Punjab that he would be unavailable for the IPL, only to later reverse his decision.
Both Lucknow and Sunrisers Hyderabad went hard for his signature at the auction, with LSG eventually winning the bidding war.
