Pakistan have been fined five per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Group A clash against Harmanpreet Kaur’s India at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday, June 14.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Claire Polosak and Jacquline Williams, along with third umpire Eloise Sheridan and fourth umpire Sue Redfern, after Pakistan were found to be one over short of the required rate once time allowances had been taken into account.

The sanction was imposed by Trudy Anderson of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees following Pakistan’s crushing 64-run defeat to India.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana admitted the offence and accepted the proposed penalty, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.

Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl within the stipulated time.

PAKISTAN CRUMBLE AGAINST INDIA

Pakistan endured a nightmare outing against India, getting bowled out for 106 in 17 overs while chasing a target of 171. Although Pakistan struck early by dismissing Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana's brilliant 68 put India firmly in control before Richa Ghosh's quickfire 34 provided late momentum and helped the team post 170 for 6.

In reply, Muneeba Ali rode her luck to score 41 and gave Pakistan a solid platform. However, the innings fell apart against India's spin attack. Deepti Sharma wreaked havoc with a sensational five-wicket haul, while Shree Charani chipped in with three wickets as Pakistan suffered a crushing 64-run defeat.

Pakistan entered the Women’s T20 World Cup on the back of a disappointing run in the Ireland tri-series, where they failed to register a single win.

Their struggles continued in the lead-up to the tournament as they lost both warm-up matches against Sri Lanka and Scotland before suffering a crushing 64-run defeat to India in their Group A opener.

Pakistan will now look to bounce back and get their campaign on track when they take on South Africa in Birmingham on Wednesday, June 17.
