India will use ODI glory as fuel for Women's T20 World Cup: Amol Muzumdar

Amol Muzumdar said India will draw confidence from their ODI World Cup triumph as they begin their Women's T20 World Cup campaign, while stressing that T20 cricket is a completely different challenge.

India head coach Amol Muzumdar said the team will use last year's ODI World Cup triumph as motivation heading into the Women’s T20 World Cup. India begin their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday, with expectations running high following their historic 50-over World Cup success.

However, Muzumdar stressed that T20 cricket is a completely different format and played down any additional pressure that comes with being world champions, noting that India’s title came in the ODI format.

"It's a completely different format, isn't it? I mean, yes, we won the World Cup but that was in the ODIs, this is a brand new format. So, I guess we are really looking forward to it," Muzumdar said.

"One thing I can assure you that we would take a lot from that World Cup getting into this tournament because we know for a fact that we will cross the line,” Muzumdar added.

MUZUMDAR LAUDS YASTIKA

Muzumdar also praised wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia for her impressive comeback from injury. Yastika missed last year's ODI World Cup after suffering a serious left knee injury in September 2025 and subsequently underwent successful surgery, reportedly an ACL reconstruction.

She returned to international cricket in the three-match T20I series against England, where she emerged as the leading run-scorer despite India going down 2-1 in the series.

"It was really unfortunate that at the last minute she had to miss out. It was a huge injury and the way she has come back, the way she has fought her way back in this team, it just tells you a little bit of an insight of how this team reacts to challenges. I think Yastika is a good example of that," Muzumdar added.

India head into the Women’s T20 World Cup on the back of consecutive series defeats against England and South Africa. They won their opening warm-up match against the West Indies before suffering a loss to England in their final tune-up game.

Placed in Group A, India will face Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, Australia and the Netherlands as they bid to make a strong start to their campaign.
