Shreyanka Patil suffers freak foot injury, stretchered off from park against Netherlands
India suffered a major injury scare during their Women's T20 World Cup clash against the Netherlands after Shreyanka Patil twisted her right ankle while fielding and had to be stretchered off the ground at Headingley.

India suffered an injury scare during their Women's T20 World Cup clash against the Netherlands after all-rounder Shreyanka Patil hurt her ankle in a freak on-field incident at Headingley, Leeds, on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on the very first ball of the sixth over of the Dutch innings. Bowling around the wicket, Shreyanka delivered a floated ball on middle stump that Phebe Molkenboer nudged into the leg side. After a half-stop from the midwicket fielder, Shreyanka sprinted across to prevent any further runs but landed awkwardly while attempting to gather the ball.

The youngster immediately went down in pain, clutching her right ankle as concerned teammates rushed towards her. Medical staff were quickly called onto the field and spent several minutes assessing the injury. The situation appeared serious as Shreyanka was unable to put any weight on her right leg.
In a worrying sight for India, the 23-year-old was eventually stretchered off the field in a buggy, casting doubt over her availability for the remainder of the tournament. With Shreyanka unable to continue, Shafali Verma stepped in to complete the over.
India will now await the results of further medical assessments, hoping the injury is not as serious as it initially appeared, especially with crucial matches against South Africa and Australia still to come in the tournament.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also issued a statement providing an update on Shreyanka's injury.
"Shreyanka Patil picked up an injury while attempting to field the ball and was stretchered off the field. We wish her a speedy recovery as we await further updates," the BCCI said in a statement.
SHREYANKA’S RELATIONSHIP WITH INJURIES CONTINUES
Shreyanka has endured a long battle with injuries, spending nearly 16 months on the sidelines before making her return to competitive cricket. Her troubles began with a fractured finger during the Asia Cup, although she recovered in time to feature in India's campaign at the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup in the UAE.
However, her comeback proved short-lived as she was later diagnosed with Grade 3 shin splints in both legs, an injury that kept her out of action for several months. The setback also forced her to miss the entire 2025 Women's Premier League season for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Shreyanka eventually returned to international cricket during India's T20I series against Australia earlier this year. She marked her comeback in style, producing a match-winning performance in the series decider at the Adelaide Oval and earning the Player of the Match award.
In the meantime, if Shreyanka is unable to recover in time, India have a ready-made replacement in Radha Yadav, whose experience and left-arm spin could prove valuable in the remainder of the tournament.
After their clash against the Netherlands, India will turn their attention to a crucial Group A encounter against 2024 runners-up South Africa at Old Trafford in Manchester on June 20.
