Cristiano Ronaldo silences critics, becomes 1st player to score in 6 World Cups
Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice against Uzbekistan in Houston as Portugal took control. His opener made him the first player to score in six World Cups and answered criticism after the draw with DR Congo.

Cristiano Ronaldo has silenced his critics by becoming the first player to score in six editions of the World Cup. Ronaldo achieved the feat when he opened the scoring for Portugal in their Group K fixture against Uzbekistan in Houston on Tuesday, June 23.
PORTUGAL VS UZBEKISTAN UPDATES
Ronaldo was heavily criticised by pundits after Portugal's opening match draw against DR Congo in the World Cup. Thierry Henry slammed Ronaldo for being selfish in the first match, pointing out a sequence where the Portuguese superstar's movement to get into a position to take a shot with the ball behind him.
Funnily enough, Ronaldo opened the scoring for Portugal with the same movement and replicating the same shot, with the ball going into the net this time. Ronaldo was ideally positioned inside the box when Joo Cancelo whipped in a pinpoint cross. The veteran striker met it first time, firing a powerful effort beyond the goalkeeper, who had no opportunity to react.
This made Ronaldo achieve the record after having scored in the 2006 edition. He also became Portugal's youngest and oldest player to score in a World Cup.
Ronaldo then played a role in the second goal for Portugal as he acted as a decoy in the freekick which Nuno Mendes converted. The Portuguese superstar then completed a brace as he pounced on a delicious ball from Bruno Fernandes and slotted it past the Uzbekistan goalkeeper.
