Champions League: PSG beat Arsenal in penalties

Paris Saint-Germain successfully defended their UEFA Champions League crown after edging Arsenal 4-3 in a penalty shootout following a tense 1-1 draw in the final at the Puskas Arena on Saturday.

The decisive moment came when Arsenal defender Gabriel blasted his penalty over the crossbar, allowing PSG to seal back-to-back European titles.

Arsenal had made the brighter start and took the lead in the sixth minute through Kai Havertz, who rifled a rising effort beyond PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov.

Despite struggling to break down Arsenal's disciplined defence for large parts of the contest, PSG found a route back into the match in the 65th minute. Ousmane Dembele converted from the penalty spot after Cristhian Mosquera brought down Khvicha Kvaratskhelia inside the box.

Neither side could find a winner during a scrappy period of extra time, sending the final to penalties. PSG held their nerve from 12 yards to retain the trophy and become only the second club in the Champions League era to win consecutive European titles.

Marquinhos consoles Gabriel

The Brazilian teammates hug it out at the end of the game. Marquinhos perhaps tells Gabriel that it is going to be okay. It is not the end of the world.

Here is Gabriel's missed penalty kick

Hard luck for Arsenal to lose it in the last kick of the game.

Here's the final kick of the ball from Gabriel.

PSG win Champions League! Despair for Arsenal

What a horror miss for Arsenal. Gabriel, taking the fifth and the final penalty skies the ball. PSG are champions, in back to back years.

The win now puts Luis Enrique in an elite club, one where he has won more than two Champions League as a coach. Luis Enrique joins Pep Guardiola and Ancelloti in an elite list.

Terrific save by David Raya to deny Nuno Mendes. Jumps sharp to his left, and punches the ball out. He does not celebrate the goal. Before that Eberachi Eze squandered the chance by hitting it wide on the right side of the keeper.

Champions League Final: Match goes into penalties

A good swap at the ball by Viktor Gyokeres. He tried to single-handedly manufacture something but that shot got deflected and went outside.

PSG did not attack much, which means that the match has now gone to penalties.

Arsenal 1-1 PSG at regulation time. Arsenal 1-1 PSG after Extra Time.

The match now heads into penalties.

Champions League Final, Extra Time: Second Half

Wow. I cannot say that there was any exhilarating play at all. Arsenal and PSG were happy to pass it around. The only cross made by PSG was intercepted by the Arsenal defence.

This looks to be heading into penalties.

Champions League Final: Extra Time HT

Final phase of play before we go into the penalties. Neither team has made any recognisable attacks. The play has simply been dead for a while.

PSG have made their final changes. Marquinhos and Vitinha have been taken off for defenders Beraldo and Zabarnyi.

Looks like Luis Enrique is bracing for penalties.

Champions League Live: 102' Huge shout for penalty

Massive shout for penalty from Arsenal players and fans, but the referee does not want to hear it. Noni Madueke sprinted into the PSG box where he was seemingly pushed down into the ground.

The referee was not interested and let the ball play.

On replay, Madueke seemed to hold the hand of Nuno Mendes before going down.

Arsenal players are fuming in protest and in process Declan Rice and coach Arteta get yellow cards for dissent.

Champions League Live: We are in Extra Time

Two changes made by Arsenal. Mikel Arteta brings in Zubimendi and Eberachi Eze.

This is a very different attacking dynamic to what we have seen before.

Can Arsenal get this done in Extra Time? We are very excited for the last half an hour of play.

May 30, 2026 23:32 IST

90 mins up: 6 mins added time

Ousmane Dembele has been taken off and Goncalo Ramos has come in his stead.

Arsenal were preparing to launch a counter-attack in the final minutes, which is stopped by Joao Neves, who gets a red card.

Arsenal then switch play and get a hold of the ball. But they cannot keep it. Barcola counters from the left, runs hard but ends up side netting the ball.

That was the last kick of the 90 mins. And we head into Extra Time.

90' Vitinha!! What a chance

Nearly a goal! Nearly a goal for Vitinha!

Gets the ball at the edge of the box, and tried to bend it into the top corner. The ball just about kisses the top bar and goes away.

UCL Final live: 86' Arsenal squander counter-attack

Gabriel Martinelli had a perfect chance to counter-attack, and he had a couple of players rushing through the half line.

The Brazilian makes an absolute mess of it and fails to deliver the ball to either of the forwards.

This game is now inching towards added time.

UEFA Champions League: 84' PSG sub out Khvara

PSG have taken off their best player on the night Khvaratskhleia.

He was looking tired after that final sprint and it is understandable that they have taken him off.

Barcola comes in his place and make a terrific run.

His final touch is a little long, which allows Raya to sprint forward and collect the ball.

PSG vs Arsenal: 75' Shot blocked

Good strong run from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who takes on the defenders on the left side, and then drills a low shot with his left foot.

The ball is blocked, but in very poor manner. The shot is deflected of the foot and goes onto hit the bar and out.

Champions League final: Dembele scores!

PSG are level. They are level against Arsenal. Ousmane Dembele keeps his composure and scores, levelling the final.

An agitated Arteta has removed Mosquera from the line-up. He has been replaced with Jurien Timber.

Gyokeres also comes in, in place of Martin Odegaard, who has struggled to influence the game.

May 30, 2026 22:58 IST

PSG vs ARS Live: 61' Paris awarded penalty

PSG have been awarded a penalty. This is a huge call in the game. Mosquera has gone straight into the back of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia right leg.

Referee has not hesitated and has given a penalty.

PSG dominating the ball in second half

Paris Saint Germain are keeping the ball a whole lot better in this half. The important part is that they are definitely stitching some passes near the goal.

PSG had a freekick, but a weak shot went through the wall and ended up straight into the hands of Arsenal keeper Raya.

But you can sense that a shift in play is coming.

May 30, 2026 22:44 IST

Champions League Final Live: 2nd half begins

The second half of the UEFA Champions League begins and Arsenal are yellow carded straight away. Mosquera has been warned by the referee.

Arsenal are slightly more open right now, and are not defending deep. But PSG's final passes continue to be poor.

May 30, 2026 22:26 IST

PSG vs ARS Live: 0-1 at Half-time

The referee does not give Arsenal the time to take the corner kick, and that's the whistle for half-time.

Despite PSG enjoying 75% of the ball possession, the thick block of Arsenal defence did not let them get much closer to restoring parity in this UCL final.

Kai Havertz's goal continues to stay as the point of difference in this match.

There could be a lot of talk about the refeering decisions in this match, but PSG might hold off the complaints until they get a proper goal.
