Iga Swiatek cruises through to Round 3, Fritz, De Minaur maintain perfect starts
Defending champion Iga Swiatek stormed into the Wimbledon third round with a straight-sets win over Karolina Pliskova, while Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur also advanced with commanding victories.

Defending champion Iga Swiatek put her opening-round wobble firmly behind her with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 victory over former world No.1 Karolina Pliskova to reach the third round of Wimbledon 2026 on Thursday, July 2.
After being taken to three sets by Taylor Townsend in her opening match, the Polish star looked back to her best on Centre Court. Swiatek dominated from the outset, breaking Pliskova repeatedly with her trademark aggressive baseline game and giving the Czech little opportunity to settle.
Although Pliskova offered greater resistance in the second set, Swiatek remained in control, serving efficiently and dictating the rallies to wrap up the contest in straight sets.
The six-time Grand Slam champion showcased the grass-court confidence that carried her to the Wimbledon title last year, striking cleanly off both wings and moving fluently around the court.
The victory extended her successful title defence and booked a third-round meeting with Filipina star Alexandra Eala, who advanced after defeating Australia's Maya Joint.
DE MINAUR, FRITZ CONTINUE DOMINANT RUNS
Fifth seed Alex de Minaur also enjoyed a comfortable passage into the third round, easing past France's Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in a polished all-round display.
The Australian needed little more than 90 minutes to dismiss the experienced left-hander, using his exceptional speed and counter-punching ability to neutralise Mannarino's flat groundstrokes.
De Minaur was clinical on serve, relentless in defence and sharp on the return, extending his run at the tournament without dropping a set. He will next face either Zachary Svajda or Kamil Majchrzak as he bids to go beyond the Grand Slam quarter-final stage for the first time.
Taylor Fritz was equally impressive as the sixth seed defeated fellow American Patrick Kypson 6-2, 6-2, 7-5 to continue his strong Wimbledon campaign.
Last year's semi-finalist dominated the opening two sets with powerful serving and aggressive first-strike tennis, allowing Kypson few opportunities to dictate play.
The world No. 6 faced a sterner challenge in the third set as Kypson fought back to level at 4-4, but Fritz quickly regained control, breaking at a crucial stage before serving out the match. The American will next face either Gabriel Diallo or Lorenzo Sonego for a place in the fourth round.
