At 36 years old, German veteran Jan-Lennard Struff has scripted a historic fairy tale at SW19, rewriting the history books as the oldest man in the Open Era to reach his first-ever Grand Slam quarterfinal. Nicknamed "Struffi", the towering power-hitter entered the tournament flying well under the radar after a modest 6-10 start to his 2026 season. Yet, his uncompromising brand of grass-court tennis—built on a blistering serve and high-risk baseline aggression—has perfectly unlocked the lawns of the All England Club, turning a veteran's grit into a historic milestone.

The crowning moment of his fairytale week arrived in the third round, where he pulled off a flawless straight-sets dismantling of world No. 8 Daniil Medvedev, before mounting a spectacular comeback from two sets down to down Hubert Hurkacz in the round of 16. His reward is a marquee quarterfinal showdown against defending champion and world No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
