iPhone 17 prices may rise today: Buy it now at discounted rates, leak reveals

Apple may increase iPhone 17 prices as soon as today, August 10, a new leak claims. With current sale discounts bringing the iPhone 17 Pro down by up to Rs 16,000, buyers may want to act before prices potentially change.

The iPhone 17 series might become more expensive as soon as today if a new leak turns out to be true. The rumour has surfaced at an interesting time, with Independence Day sales already offering discounts on Apple’s latest iPhones across major online and offline retailers. The claim comes from Weibo-based tipster Fixed Focus Digital, who suggested that rumours are circulating about an iPhone 17 price increase taking effect on August 10. However, the tipster has not confirmed that the price change will definitely happen, and there is no official word from Apple yet. That makes the report difficult to treat as a certainty. Still, the possibility is worth watching because Apple has already increased the prices of several other products this year.

Earlier this year, Apple increased prices for products including Macs, iPads, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro and HomePod by up to Rs 1 lakh. The company linked the changes to a sharp rise in memory and storage costs. The iPhone, however, was left untouched at the time, along with products such as the Apple Watch and AirPods. That had led to expectations that any iPhone price revision could come closer to the launch of the next-generation models.

The latest rumour suggests Apple could move earlier than expected. Fixed Focus Digital also claimed that Apple's plans around production capacity have changed, although it is unclear whether that is directly connected to the reported price increase. There is another reason to remain cautious. The August 10 claim comes from a Chinese tipster and does not currently have strong confirmation from another major source. Earlier reports had also suggested that iPhone prices could rise in the first week of August, but that did not happen.

Current iPhone 17 deals make the timing interesting

If Apple does increase prices today, shoppers could find themselves looking at a very different deal scenario during the ongoing Independence Day sales.

The iPhone 17 is currently listed on Flipkart's mobile app for Rs 81,900, compared with its Rs 82,900 launch price. That means buyers are already getting a flat Rs 1,000 discount. Flipkart Axis Bank and Flipkart SBI card holders can also get an additional Rs 4,000 discount, while other SBI card users can get Rs 2,000 off.

The iPhone 17 Pro is available for Rs 1,26,900, down from Rs 1,34,900 at launch. Along with the Rs 8,000 price cut, eligible Flipkart Axis and SBI card users can get another Rs 8,000 off, taking the potential total discount to Rs 16,000.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max is also listed at Rs 1,41,900, compared with its Rs 1,49,900 launch price. It gets the same additional bank discount available on the Pro model.

iPhone 17 already launched at a price higher than iPhone 16 series

Apple had already raised the starting prices of the iPhone 17 family compared with its predecessors in India. The iPhone 16 started at Rs 79,900, while the iPhone 17 launched at Rs 82,900. However, the newer model comes with 256GB of base storage instead of 128GB.

The iPhone 17 Pro launched at Rs 1,34,900, compared with Rs 1,19,900 for the iPhone 16 Pro, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max started at Rs 1,49,900 against Rs 1,44,900 for the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

So, if Apple really raises prices again, buyers could be facing another increase on top of an already higher launch price. For now, there is no confirmation that the hike will happen today or that every iPhone 17 model will be affected. But with discounts currently available, buyers who were already planning to purchase an iPhone 17 may want to keep an eye on prices before the day ends.
