Apple is expected to take the wraps off its next-generation iPhones in September, and a fresh wave of leaks suggests the company could be preparing some major changes across its premium lineup. While much of the attention is on the long-rumoured foldable iPhone, believed to be called the iPhone Ultra, reports also indicate that the iPhone 18 Pro series may arrive with larger batteries, a different look and higher prices.

Price increase could be one of the biggest changes

The latest estimates from market research firm Counterpoint Research suggest Apple's upcoming flagship models may cost more to manufacture than the current generation. The increase is reportedly being driven by rising prices of key components such as NAND storage and DRAM memory, both of which have become more expensive in recent months.

Another factor expected to push costs higher is Apple's next-generation processor, which is rumoured to be built using a 2nm process. Camera hardware could also become more expensive if Apple introduces a new variable-aperture main camera system on the Pro models.

Because of these rising component costs, Apple may revise pricing across the iPhone 18 range. Some reports suggest certain storage variants could see price increases of up to $200, though the company is expected to spread the hikes differently across models rather than applying a flat increase.

iPhone Ultra tipped to bring a bigger battery

Beyond pricing, new leaks have shed light on what could be Apple's most ambitious iPhone yet. According to information shared by tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, a battery supplier linked to Apple recently certified two separate battery cells together. Such a setup is commonly used in foldable phones, where internal space is divided between two halves of the device.

The two batteries are said to have capacities of 1,921mAh and 2,962mAh. Combined, they deliver a rated capacity of 4,883mAh, suggesting the final marketed figure could be around 5,000mAh. If the report is accurate, the foldable iPhone Ultra would offer significantly more battery capacity than many current iPhone models.

The figure also places Apple's foldable device in the same category as premium book-style foldables from rivals such as Samsung and Google, both of which have been focusing on larger batteries in recent generations.

The battery upgrades may not be limited to the Ultra model. Leaks indicate that Apple is planning modest increases for the iPhone 18 Pro and more substantial improvements for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. While the exact capacities could vary depending on whether a model uses eSIM or a physical SIM tray, both devices are expected to gain additional battery capacity over their predecessors.

The iPhone 18 Pro lineup may also undergo some physical changes. Rumours point to heavier devices this year, with the Pro Max potentially crossing the 240-gram mark. There are also conflicting reports regarding thickness. Some claim the phones themselves will become thicker, while others suggest the increase will come mainly from a larger camera module.

Colour options could be another talking point. Current leaks suggest Apple may continue without a black Pro model, instead focusing on shades such as dark cherry, light blue and silver.

As always, these details remain unconfirmed. Apple is expected to reveal the iPhone Ultra, iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max during its annual September launch event, where the final specifications, pricing and features will become official.
