Nothing gears up to launch new smartphone, but says it is not CMF 3 Pro

Nothing made waves with its spin-off brand CMF last year with the CMF Phone 2 Pro. However, Nothing co-founder Evangelidis has now confirmed that the company is not planning to launch a successor to the Phone 2 Pro. Instead, the company has teased a new Nothing smartphone.

When Nothing’s spin-off brand, CMF, launched the Phone 2 Pro last year, it made waves in the smartphone market. The CMF Phone 2 Pro brought a telephoto sensor, an interesting design, and impressive specs under Rs 20,000. Now, Nothing has started teasing the launch of a new smartphone, but it is not going to be a CMF Phone 3 Pro.

On X, Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis confirmed that due to rising memory prices, a successor to the Phone 2 Pro would not have worked out. He wrote, “We were working on a successor but with memory prices where they are right now, we can't build a phone that feels like a genuine step forward at a price that makes sense for CMF.” He added, “As a result, we've decided not to launch a new CMF phone this year.”

But Akis has teased that the London-based phonemaker still had plans to launch a new smartphone. He wrote, “The smartphone launch season at Nothing isn't over yet. More to come. Soon.” So far this year, Nothing has launched two phones – the Phone 4a and the Phone 4a Pro.

Akis Evangelidis confirmed that there were no plans for a CMF Phone 3 Pro launch.

Nothing Phone 4b in the works?

Nothing recently posted a teaser, hinting at a new Series b device. While there is no word on whether this is a reference to a new Nothing Phone 4b, it may be a possibility.

Nothing has also shared images of two Pokemons – A Jumpluff and a Blastoise. Nothing devices usually have Pokemons as codenames, hinting towards new devices. As per rumours, the Blastoise could be the next Nothing smartphone, while the Jumpluff may be the Nothing Ear 3a, a successor to the Ear a.

Nothing has a history of teasing new devices with Pokemon.

There have been leaks associated with the CMF Phone 3 Pro in the past that suggested upgraded materials, a metal frame, and a redesigned camera module. As per AndroidHeadlines, this purported device would've likely used the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset, and a 5,500mAh battery. However, as per tipster Yogesh Brar, this device may now come under the Nothing banner instead, with an expected launch in India next month.
