OnePlus OxygenOS, Realme UI going away? Report says all phones will use Oppo ColorOS
OnePlus and Realme are reportedly planning to discontinue their respective Android skins – OxygenOS and Realme UI. It is believed that this move is part of broader restructuring by Oppo, the parent company of the two brands.

OnePlus and Realme may be planning to discontinue their respective Android skins. Oppo, the parent company of the two brands, is reportedly planning for a wider restructuring of its smartphone business that could lead to the end of OxygenOS and Realme UI on future devices.
As per a report from Smartprix, which cited a reliable industry insider, all future OnePlus and Realme smartphones are expected to run ColorOS – Oppo’s Android skin. India Today Tech has reached out to OnePlus and Realme for a comment. The story will be updated as and when they respond.
OxygenOS and Realme UI to be axed?
According to the report, the decision is being driven in part by the cost of maintaining three separate Android skins - ColorOS, OxygenOS and Realme UI. Cutting OxygenOS and Realme UI could significantly reduce research and development costs, time and software engineering effort. This would in turn allow Oppo to invest more resources in ColorOS.
This means that if you buy a OnePlus or a Realme phone in the future, you will likely have it running on ColorOS, instead of their respective Android skins.
Do note that OnePlus phones already come with OxygenOS in China, after retiring HydrogenOS in 2021 – the same year when OnePlus and Oppo merged the software codebases for OxygenOS and ColorOS. Realme UI is also built on the same codebase as ColorOS.
What is happening with OnePlus and Realme?
This move comes at a time when Oppo is said to be bringing the two subbrands closer into its core brand. OnePlus is reportedly planning to narrow its focus to India and China, while Realme is rumoured to potentially wind down its China business to concentrate on markets outside the country.
The report also claims that OnePlus' after-sales support in India is expected to come under Oppo’s service network, with standalone OnePlus service centres likely to be phased out.
Previous reports also indicate that Realme may eventually be turned into a series instead of a subbrand for Oppo, at least in India, while OnePlus may become the online-focused brand. In terms of the global market, OnePlus websites in some European countries, including Germany and Spain, have reportedly started showing Oppo products.
