Xiaomi 17 was launched recently in February. Now rumours of its successor – Xiaomi 18 – are already in the air. And going by what has been surfacing online, Xiaomi appears to be cooking up something worth paying attention to. From a bigger battery to a dual 200MP camera system and a next-generation chipset, the leaks are painting a picture of a compact flagship that punches well above its size.

Xiaomi 18 expected specs and features

One of the more recent leaks comes from tipster Digital Chat Station, who has shared that the Xiaomi 18 engineering prototype is running a 7,200mAh battery, a slight bump up from the Xiaomi 17's 7,000mAh cell. For a compact smartphone, that is a strong number.

On the display front, the Xiaomi 18 is expected to feature a 6.4-inch 2K panel with ultra-narrow symmetrical bezels and SuperPixel display technology, keeping things compact and easy to handle without compromising on screen quality.

Under the hood, the phone is rumoured to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, a next-generation 2nm chipset that will also power the Pro model.

Cameras are where things get particularly exciting. The Xiaomi 18 is expected to sport a dual 200MP rear camera setup with large sensors, and here is the part that stands out – it will reportedly be the first standard Xiaomi model to include a 3x periscope telephoto lens. Until now, that feature had been reserved exclusively for Pro variants. The phone could also support ultrasonic fingerprint recognition and full waterproofing. On the charging front, things might remain unchanged from the previous generation, with 100W wired charging and wireless charging both on board.

One thing not making the cut on the standard model is the back screen design seen on Pro versions, that feature stays exclusive to the Pro lineup.

Xiaomi 18 launch

The Xiaomi 18 series is expected to launch in September, possibly a touch earlier than last year's timeline, putting it on a direct collision course with the iPhone 18 Pro series. More details are expected to trickle out in the weeks ahead, and given how much has already leaked, it is safe to say the full picture will not stay hidden for long.
