Between the cockroach masks, protest placards and demands for accountability at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, social media somehow found a ‘pookie’ man to obsess over.

At the Cockroach Janta Party's protest at Jantar Mantar, the man was asked why he had decided to join the demonstration. His response had nothing to do with politics, viral hashtags or social media trends.

He said he had come to support his girlfriend.

According to the man, his girlfriend had been struggling emotionally since the NEET paper leak controversy and had been dealing with depression for over a month. Since she was unable to attend the protest herself, he decided to show up on her behalf.

The brief interaction was captured in a video shared by news portal Bajarbattu on Instagram. Within hours, the clip had spread across social media, with viewers more interested in the boyfriend than the protest itself.

Watch the video:

Comment sections quickly filled with praise. While some users jokingly demanded to know where such men could be found, others called him the "greenest flag on the internet". Several people pointed out that emotional support often matters more than grand romantic gestures, especially during difficult periods of stress and uncertainty.

The viral moment unfolded during the first major on-ground mobilisation of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a satirical movement that has gained traction among students and job aspirants frustrated by alleged examination and recruitment irregularities.

Hundreds gathered at Jantar Mantar wearing cockroach masks, carrying books, flowers and the national flag. Protesters demanded greater accountability over paper leak controversies and called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Yet despite the slogans, speeches and political messaging, social media appeared to have found its own headline from the event.

For many online, the most memorable image from the protest wasn't a placard or a cockroach mask. It was a young man quietly showing up because someone he cared about was having a hard time.

And in an internet landscape overflowing with relationship horror stories, that was enough to make people stop scrolling.
