A viral video from Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport has sparked a debate on social media after scenes of passengers resting on floors and cement benches prompted comparisons with crowded railway stations.

The video, shared on Instagram by digital creator Aafreen Ahemadi, begins by showcasing the stunning interiors of Terminal 2, often hailed as one of India's most beautiful airports.

Known for its nature-inspired design, the terminal features lush greenery, hanging plants, bamboo installations, fountains and expansive open spaces that give it a tranquil, garden-like atmosphere.

However, the mood of the video soon shifts.

After highlighting the airport's award-winning aesthetics, the clip cuts to scenes from the departure area, where several passengers can be seen lying down on cement seating structures, resting with their heads on bags and backpacks.

Others were spotted stretched out under the shade of indoor trees while waiting for their flights.

Adding a humorous twist, the video carried the text: "Tum jitna bhi International airport banwalo, hum toh desi hi rahenge" (No matter how international-level airport you build, we will still remain desi).

The contrast between the airport's world-class infrastructure and passengers sleeping in public spaces quickly caught the internet's attention.

Many users criticised the behaviour, arguing that airports are shared public spaces and travellers should be mindful of how they use them.

"There is no desi thing in this, it's called zero civic sense," one Instagram user wrote.

But not everyone agreed.

Several users defended the passengers, pointing out that long layovers, delayed flights and a shortage of comfortable resting areas often leave travellers with little choice. Others argued that sleeping in airports is hardly unique to India.

"Have you been outside India? There also people sleep at airport during long overhauls. Also sleeps on the floor inside the airport but let's make reel to demean desi people and look cool," one person commented.

The video has since evolved into a larger conversation about airport infrastructure, passenger etiquette and the realities of modern travel. While some viewed the scenes as a reflection of poor civic sense, others saw exhausted travellers simply trying to get some rest wherever they could find it.
