A Bengaluru man said that people stayed in the city not for the place itself, but for another reason not everyone knew of. His Instagram video struck a chord with users who called Bengaluru their second home despite its everyday problems.

A Bengaluru man has offered a different explanation for why so many people continue to stay in the city despite constantly complaining about its traffic jams and sky-high rents, and his take has resonated with thousands online.

The video was shared on Instagram by Ankit Simplifies, a software developer with over 10 years of experience, who reflected on what he believes keeps people rooted in Bengaluru despite its well-known drawbacks.

The clip opens with him saying, "There is something really weird about Bengaluru."

He went on to point out that while many people living in the city regularly complained about its bumper-to-bumper traffic, rising cost of living and expensive rents, very few actually chose to leave.

According to Ankit, the reason has little to do with the city itself. Instead, he believed that people became attached to the version of themselves they discovered after moving to Bengaluru.

Explaining his perspective, he said that the city often marked a turning point in people's lives. For some, it was where they landed their first high-paying job. For others, it was where they built their first startup, switched careers, or became financially independent. Those milestones, he argued, create an emotional connection that made people willing to put up with the city's everyday struggles.

He suggested that while Bengaluru might test people's patience with its traffic and soaring rents, it also became the place where many of their biggest personal and professional breakthroughs happened, making it difficult to walk away.

The video prompted many people to share their own experiences in the comments.

Several users agreed with Ankit's perspective, saying Bengaluru had given them opportunities they had only dreamed of while growing up, making its shortcomings easier to accept.

Others said they had spent decades in the city and had come to appreciate not just the career opportunities, but also its pleasant weather, food, educated workforce and the way it continues to preserve its local traditions.

Many also described Bengaluru as their "second home," saying that while they often found themselves complaining about the city's infrastructure and traffic, they still couldn't imagine building their lives anywhere else.
