Bengaluru woman receives garbage bag in welcome kit from office, shares why
A Bengaluru brand strategist said her new employer welcomed her with a compostable garbage bag. The unusual gift sparked praise online for turning sustainability into a practical daily habit.

A Bengaluru woman was left amused after receiving an unusual welcome gift from her new workplace, a garbage bag, only to realise that it turned out to be one of the most useful things she could have asked for.
Manisha Dubey, a brand strategist based in Bengaluru, shared the experience in a LinkedIn post, revealing that her new employer, Bambrew, had handed her a compostable garbage bag as part of her onboarding kit.
"My new office gave me a garbage bag as a welcome kit. I am not even kidding," she wrote.
Unlike the usual gift vouchers, coffee mugs or wellness coupons that companies often hand out to new hires, Dubey said she was greeted by a simple garbage bag sitting on her desk. Intrigued by the unexpected gift, she even snapped a picture of it "as evidence."
The accompanying image showed the roll labelled "Compostable Garbage Bag."
Reflecting on the gesture, Dubey pointed out that many companies often speak about sustainability and environmental consciousness while continuing to distribute products wrapped in layers of plastic. Bambrew, she said, had chosen a far more practical approach.
She explained that after moving to a new city and still settling into a routine without household help, the gift proved surprisingly useful. According to her, the compostable bags were leak-proof, durable and made her feel less guilty about taking out the trash.
"My environmentally responsible era has begun. Forced or otherwise," she joked.
Thanking her colleagues for what she called the "warmest, most compostable welcome" she had ever received, Dubey added in a humorous postscript that she would happily accept a monthly supply because "you can never have enough garbage bags."

Her post left social media users chuckling on LinkedIn and prompted many users to praise the idea behind the unusual welcome kit.
Several people observed that the gesture transformed sustainability from a buzzword into an everyday habit, arguing that small and practical actions often create a bigger impact than lofty promises and marketing slogans.
Others said the company appeared to be filled with disruptive thinkers, adding that the unconventional welcome gift served as a reminder that meaningful change often begins with simple choices that people can incorporate into their daily lives.
Many also appreciated the practicality of the idea, joking that the best welcome gifts are not necessarily the fanciest ones, but rather the ones that people actually end up using.
The post has since sparked conversations about sustainable workplace practices, with many social media users saying they would gladly trade another branded coffee mug for something equally practical.
