A woman from Delhi shared a emotional moment with her Rapido driver, saying a small act of kindness during a routine ride ended up leaving a much deeper impact than she had expected.

Shared by X user @chiggiiiii, the woman narrated a brief but heartfelt interaction she had with her Rapido driver while travelling, explaining how a casual conversation about Delhi’s scorching heat gave her a reality check on the hardships faced by gig workers.

In her now-viral post, she wrote that she and the Rapido rider had been chatting during the journey when he mentioned just how unbearable the rising temperatures had become lately.

When the ride ended, she decided to do something simple.

“Rapido wale bhaiya and I were having a little chat on the way, and he mentioned how unbearably hot it’s been lately,” she wrote.

She said that before getting off, she asked him to take care of himself, offered him the soft drink she had with her, and reminded him to stay hydrated in the extreme weather.

What followed, she said, stayed with her.

According to the woman, the driver became visibly emotional and responded, “Humare baare mein toh kaun hi sochta hai” (“Who really thinks about people like us anyway?”).

Reflecting on the moment, she wrote that the interaction reminded her how far even the smallest gestures of kindness can go, especially for people who spend long hours working in difficult conditions.

“It just made me realise that the world would be such a better place if we were a little kinder to people more often,” she added.

Take a look at the post here:

The interaction got people talking about how invisible gig workers often feel despite spending hours in harsh weather every day.

Several commenters pointed out that people working outdoors, especially riders, drivers and delivery personnel, dealt with extreme heat, traffic and exhaustion every single day, yet rarely received even basic kindness or acknowledgement.

Some users also remarked that people should make a conscious effort to be kinder to those working hard around them, adding that empathy costs nothing but could mean everything to someone having a difficult day.

Several people also shared similar personal experiences, recalling moments where drivers, security guards, cleaners or delivery workers became emotional after receiving small acts of care, from being offered food or water to simply being spoken to respectfully.

For many, the post became less about a soft drink and more about the importance of recognising the dignity and humanity of people whose labour often goes unnoticed.
