A drunk foreign tourist was taken into custody after creating a disturbance in the busy Kachahri Chowk area of Dharamshala, triggering panic among shopkeepers, commuters and tourists in the market.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident unfolded in Kotwali Bazaar when the foreign national, who was intoxicated, began creating a ruckus on the roadside.

Witnesses claimed he threw vegetables from vendors' stalls onto the road and also pelted stones at a taxi, damaging the vehicle and causing alarm in the area.

The situation drew the attention of local residents and traders, who attempted to calm him down, but he continued causing disruption for a considerable period, eyewitnesses said. During the commotion, he also allegedly misbehaved with a female traffic police officer deployed at the spot.

As videos and reports of the incident spread, a crowd gathered at the busy market junction while police rushed to the scene. Officers eventually brought the situation under control and took the man into custody.

Speaking about the incident, fruit vendor Joginder Pal, who works near Kachahri Chowk, said the foreign tourist created significant chaos in the area before police intervened and detained him. He added that local traders were concerned about such incidents occurring in one of the town's busiest commercial areas.

Following the episode, several local shopkeepers and residents called for stronger security arrangements in crowded market zones, saying such incidents can create fear among visitors and locals alike.

ASP Dharamshala Bir Bahadur said the foreign national has been taken into custody and police are verifying details regarding where he has been staying and other aspects of his visit. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
