A couple riding a motorcycle without helmets in Gujarat suffered a painful fall after their bike slammed into a waterlogged pothole, with CCTV footage capturing the moment they were thrown onto the road.

The video was shared on X by Dave (Road Safety: City & Highways), an account that regularly posts content highlighting road safety issues across India.

The CCTV footage showed the couple riding along a road in Junagadh, Gujarat, without wearing helmets. As they rode through a stretch of waterlogged road, the motorcycle's front wheel struck a large pothole hidden beneath the rainwater.

The impact immediately threw both riders off their seats, sending them crashing onto the road. The two landed on top of each other after being flung forward by the force of the collision.

While the woman appeared to recover almost instantly and quickly got back on her feet, the man seemed to have suffered a head injury. He remained on the ground for a few moments, clutching his head in pain before attempting to get up.

The post was captioned, "Gujarat, Junagadh. Always wear full dace helmets + keep an eye on the road, potholes won't be visible during rain."

The video sparked a wider discussion about both rider safety and the condition of Indian roads. Many users stressed that helmets and seat belts are meant to protect lives rather than simply help people avoid traffic fines.

They also pointed out that such accidents can happen without warning, especially during the monsoon when potholes are concealed by rainwater.

At the same time, several users argued that the incident also reflected poor road maintenance. They said responsibility should not fall solely on riders, adding that neglected roads, waterlogged potholes and poorly maintained infrastructure continue to pose serious risks to commuters.

Others questioned why such hazards persist despite being used daily by thousands of motorists, calling for greater accountability from civic authorities alongside stricter adherence to road safety measures by riders.
