Loyal pet dog sacrifices life battling cobra to protect owner in Haryana
A nine-year-old pet dog, Jimmy, fought a black cobra outside his Karnal home after it moved towards the gate. He died within minutes from the bites, with his owner calling it an act of protection.
A pet dog died after taking on a black cobra to protect its owner in Haryana's Karnal district, with CCTV footage of the encounter showing the animal continuing to fight despite being bitten multiple times.
The incident took place in Nising area of Karnal, where nine-year-old Jimmy, a pet dog, confronted the snake after it slithered towards the entrance of the family's home. CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced online.
According to Jimmy's owner, Sumit Thakur, the incident happened around 6pm on Sunday when he was taking his two pet dogs, Jimmy and Max, out for a walk. As they reached the gate, a black cobra emerged nearby.
In the video, before Sumit could react, both dogs broke free and rushed towards the snake. Jimmy attacked first, lunging at the cobra with his paws as it raised its hood. During the fight, the snake bit Jimmy on the mouth and one of his paws.
Despite being bitten, Jimmy continued attacking the cobra, while Max circled around it to prevent it from moving further into the property.

Within minutes, however, the venom began taking effect. Sumit said Jimmy's condition deteriorated rapidly, and within around eight minutes, the poison had spread through his body. Amid the commotion, the cobra managed to slip away and hide near a wall.
A snake rescuer was called to the scene and safely captured the cobra before releasing it into a nearby forest.
Sumit also summoned a veterinarian, but Jimmy succumbed to the venom before medical help could arrive.
Remembering the incident, an emotional Sumit said he believed Jimmy had saved his life. Fighting back tears, he said the dog died before his eyes within minutes after protecting him from the snake.
Jimmy had been with the family for around nine years and was treated as one of their own. According to Sumit, the family took special care of him throughout his life, ensuring he stayed comfortable during both summers and winters.
