An Indian man was pleasantly surprised after his foreign boss asked him to take the day off upon learning it was his child’s first day at pre-school.

In a video titled, “This is why everyone loves foreign managers,” Saurav recalled how his manager refused to let him work from office that day.

“I have a foreign manager who refused to let me work from office today. He told me, ‘Saurav, please take a leave,’ just because today was my baby’s first day at pre-school,” he said in the video.

Saurav explained that he had joined a meeting late and had informed his manager about the reason. His manager, however, was surprised that he had logged in at all.

“He was very shocked and said, ‘Saurav, why did you even join office today? Today is very important, and I think you should really be with your kid,’” he said.

He also said that his manager insisted he take the day off and spend time with his child, saying the child would likely feel scared on the first day of school.

Saurav then contrasted the response with what he believes would be a typical reaction from many Indian managers.

“Can you imagine an Indian manager even thinking like this? I don’t think so. They would probably say, ‘You have dropped your child at school, so your job there is done. Now let’s continue work,’” he said.

Highlighting the gap in workplace attitudes, he said many people, including Indian managers, are aware of the difference but are often unwilling to change.

Addressing Indian managers directly, Saurav urged them to learn from such examples, adding that some things in life are more important than office work.

Many users in the comments section said they could relate, with several sharing similar experiences about workplace culture and the importance of empathy and work-life balance.

The discussion also highlighted growing calls for healthier workplace cultures, where personal milestones are valued alongside professional responsibilities.
