Kanwariya swept away in Ganga, helpless brother cries 'take Rs 5 lakh, save him'

The incident took place on Saturday at a ghat in Devprayag, where a Kanwariya was caught in the river’s strong current while taking a bath. As the current carried him away, his elder brother stood on the bank, desperately calling for help and pleading with people to rescue him.
A video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, captures the elder brother’s anguish as he struggled to find someone who could save his brother. In the video, he can be heard crying helplessly, “Take Rs 5 lakh, just catch my brother, save my brother.”
The Kanwariya, who had gone into the river to bathe, was suddenly caught in the current and began drifting away. His brother, watching the scene unfold from the bank, could do little but plead with those around him for help.
But the force of the river proved too strong. Despite his desperate appeals and attempts to find help, the elder brother could not save his younger sibling.
Authorities routinely urge Kanwariyas and other devotees to avoid entering areas with strong currents and to use designated, safer spots for bathing.
