Odisha woman delivers twins, one on train and another in ambulance minutes later
A pregnant passenger delivered one twin on the Rajyarani Express and the other in an ambulance to hospital. The rare sequence highlighted the swift response from railway staff, emergency teams and medical workers.

A woman in Odisha gave birth to her twin babies in the most extraordinary circumstances imaginable: one aboard a moving train and the other inside an ambulance rushing her to the hospital.
Thanks to the swift response of railway staff and emergency personnel, both newborns and their mother are safe and healthy.
The remarkable incident unfolded on the Rourkela-Gunupur Rajyarani Express, where the woman was travelling in a general coach when she suddenly went into labour. As her condition became increasingly urgent, railway authorities were alerted through the Rail Madad portal and arrangements were made to provide emergency assistance.
A Railway Protection Force (RPF) team was immediately deployed at Cuttack railway station to receive the passenger and ensure she received medical care. However, before the train could reach the station, the woman delivered her first child, a baby boy, inside the moving train.
When the train arrived at Cuttack, RPF personnel sprang into action. They secured a section of the platform to create a safe space for the mother and newborn and arranged immediate medical assistance. A pharmacist present at the station also stepped forward to help and provided essential support until further medical care could be arranged.
It was then discovered that the woman was expecting twins.
Despite the birth of the first child, she continued to experience labour pains. Emergency responders quickly coordinated her transfer to SCB Medical College and Hospital through a 108 ambulance.
But the second twin had other plans.
Before the ambulance could reach the hospital, the woman again went into active labour. As the vehicle sped towards the medical facility, she delivered her second baby inside the ambulance itself.
Here’s the video:
The unusual sequence of events meant that the twins were born at two entirely different locations, one on a train and the other in an ambulance, making the story a rare and remarkable one.
Fortunately, the dramatic circumstances did not affect the health of the family. Railway officials and medical personnel confirmed that the mother and both newborns are doing well. All three are currently under medical observation, and their condition is reported to be stable.
The incident has drawn attention online, with many praising the quick response of railway staff, emergency personnel and healthcare workers whose timely intervention helped ensure a safe outcome for both the mother and her babies.
