A group of friends holidaying at a resort in the Philippines were in for a terrifying shock after they found a king cobra hiding inside the hotel toilet.

The incident occurred at a resort in Salvador Benedicto, located within the Northern Negros Natural Park in the Philippines, The Sun reports. The group of five friends had been staying at the resort when one of them entered the bathroom and noticed something unusual inside the toilet bowl.

At first, the guest assumed the toilet had not been flushed properly after spotting a dark object in the water. However, after flushing again, the group was horrified when the head of a snake suddenly emerged from the pipework beneath the toilet.

A video of the moment, which has surfaced online, showed one of the guests cautiously lifting the toilet lid before carefully nudging the reptile with a long stick. Moments later, the snake slithered out and appeared to stare directly toward the person filming while flicking its tongue.

One of the guests, identified as Dranreb Teodoso, told The Sun that the group initially struggled to believe their friend’s claim as he rushed to inspect the bathroom himself. He used a stick to check whether the snake was alive before hotel staff were alerted.

The group first believed the reptile was a harmless water snake. However, after footage of the encounter was shared with reptile enthusiasts online, they were informed that it appeared to be a King Cobra, considered one of the world’s deadliest venomous snakes.

Local authorities told The Sun that King Cobra sightings had previously been reported in Salvador Benedicto. Superintendent Gina Gerangaya said investigators were exploring the possibility that the snake may have escaped from illegal captivity.

Officials also suggested the reptile may have been searching for a cooler hiding place amid soaring temperatures in the region.

Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident.
