A woman constable in Rajasthan was suspended after a photograph showing her sitting with both feet on a desk as an elderly man waited to lodge a complaint at a police station went viral on social media.
The incident occurred at the Bichhiwara Police Station in the Dungarpur district, where the elderly man had gone to lodge a complaint. Reports circulating on social media stated that the man encountered the constable, who allegedly appeared uninterested in addressing his grievance.
In a display widely criticised online as unprofessional and disrespectful, the constable was seen sitting with both feet resting on the table, in the presence of the elderly complainant.
A photograph of the incident, taken by someone at the police station, was later shared by multiple social media accounts as it triggered massive outrage.
Following the backlash, Rajasthan Police took cognisance of the matter. In a response to one such post, Dungarpur Police said the constable had been suspended with immediate effect.
In its statement, the police said disciplinary action had also been initiated in the matter.
The incident also highlighted the power of social media, where a single image can quickly draw public attention and trigger official action.
