A patriotic skydiving display at a Northern California rodeo took a dramatic turn when a flag-carrying parachutist crash-landed near spectators, turning what was meant to be a celebratory descent into a tense moment caught on camera.

The incident took place at the Folsom Pro Rodeo near Sacramento, where a skydiver identified as Ross was performing a jump carrying a large American flag as part of Independence Day celebrations tied to America’s upcoming 250th birthday milestone.

The display, meant to highlight national pride and festival spirit, quickly went off course as the parachutist approached his landing.

Video footage shows Ross descending steadily toward the rodeo arena with the American flag trailing behind him. However, as he neared the ground, the flag appeared to get caught on a nearby tree.

The sudden snag disrupted his landing trajectory, causing him to lose control and crash into a small tent positioned near the arena floor.

The impact sent the tent collapsing, narrowly avoiding what could have been a more dangerous collision with nearby spectator stands filled with attendees. The video cuts off shortly after the landing, leaving viewers initially uncertain about the skydiver’s condition.

Despite the alarming fall, rodeo organisers later confirmed that Ross walked away without any injuries.

In a statement shared with Fox 40, they reassured the public about his condition, saying, “On behalf of the Folsom Pro Rodeo and Choose Folsom, our skydiver Ross is safe and walked into our arena, post jump, to a standing ovation. He will be skydiving into our arena again tonight, July 3rd.”

The organisers also reiterated the same update to ABC News, confirming his safety and noting that he would be returning for another jump later that evening.

What was intended as a celebratory patriotic display ahead of major national commemorations instead became a startling viral moment, as spectators watched the dramatic crash unfold just metres from the crowd. Despite the scare, the quick confirmation of safety helped ease concerns, turning the incident into an unusual but ultimately harmless highlight of the rodeo event.
