A video showing a scuffle between tourists and rafting operators in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal district has gone viral on social media.

Police officials said that the dispute began over photography and videography, and quickly escalated into a physical altercation during a rafting trip. The viral video shows several people hitting each other with rafting paddles.

Although the incident is said to have occurred about a week ago, no formal complaint was filed by either party. However, after the video surfaced online, Tehri Police took suo motu cognisance of the matter and launched an investigation.

Police identified four individuals involved in the altercation and booked them under Section 81 of the Uttarakhand Police Act, related to disorderly conduct in public places. They were also asked to submit written apologies.

Authorities said the safety and dignity of tourists remain a top priority and warned that strict action would be taken against anyone disturbing law and order at tourist spots or behaving indecently with visitors.

Incidents of disputes between tourists and rafting operators have surfaced from time to time in Rishikesh and nearby rafting zones, raising concerns over tourist safety and the region’s tourism image. Police have appealed to all stakeholders to act responsibly and maintain decorum.
