A deeply emotional moment marked General Dhiraj Seth's first day as India's 31st Chief of the Army Staff when he, along with his younger brother Rear Admiral Ravinish Seth, saluted their father, Lieutenant General KM Seth (Retd), following the ceremonial guard of honour.

The touching exchange, captured on camera, came shortly after General Seth formally assumed command of the Indian Army.

As the ceremony concluded, both brothers, each serving at the highest levels of India's armed forces, turned towards their retired father and offered him a respectful salute, a gesture that has resonated with many across the country.

Speaking to the media after taking charge, General Seth described the appointment as both an honour and a humbling responsibility.

"It is a matter of pride and humility for me to assume the office of the 31st Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army today. I accept this responsibility with an unwavering commitment to the ideals of 'Duty, Honour, and Nation First'," he said, according to ANI.

He also paid tribute to fallen soldiers, saying, "I also pay my humble tribute to those brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation; their courage, devotion to duty, and selfless dedication will continue to inspire future generations," ANI reported.

General Seth took charge as the 31st Chief of the Army Staff on Tuesday. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, he was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986 and previously served as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff.

He is also among the few senior officers to have commanded two operational Army commands along the western front.

While his appointment marks a significant milestone in an accomplished military career, it was the simple act of saluting his father, a retired Lieutenant General who had once worn the same uniform, that became the most memorable moment of the ceremony, symbolising a family's enduring legacy of service to the nation.
