Xi pitches China's industrial rise as a model for developing nations
Xi Jinping used a Communist Party anniversary speech to present China's industrial rise as a template for developing nations. The remarks reinforced Beijing's push for greater global influence alongside stronger military and party control.

China's leader Xi Jinping on Wednesday presented the country's rapid industrialisation as a model for developing nations, using a speech marking the 105th anniversary of the ruling Communist Party to project confidence at home and abroad.
Xi said China had achieved in a few decades what it took rich countries centuries to do. He also repeated Beijing's position that the international system should better reflect the interests of developing countries, even as China says it does not want to replace the existing global order.
Speaking at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Xi, now in his 14th year in power, said, "We advocate the building of a community with a shared future for humanity, providing Chinese wisdom, Chinese solutions and Chinese strength for addressing major issues facing humanity."
China has long objected to US dominance of the international system. Xi's government went head-to-head with the US last year and forced President Donald Trump to scale back import tariffs that he had imposed on imports from China.
Xi said the world had entered a new period of turbulence and transformation, putting humanity at a crossroads. He repeated earlier pledges to push forward the building of a new type of international relations to promote world peace and development.
His remarks echoed many of the themes from his speech on the party's 100th anniversary in 2021, including the importance of a strong military and of bringing Taiwan under China's control.
Xi also stressed the need to raise the military more quickly to world-class standards while maintaining the Communist Party's leadership over the armed forces. Several senior generals have been removed in recent years in a corruption purge that is also seen as a way to ensure loyalty in the military.
Overall, Xi used the anniversary speech to highlight China's development record, restate its global message, and underline priorities including military strength and party control.
