Trump suggests White House football reunion with Obama and Biden
Donald Trump said he may invite Barack Obama, Joe Biden and the Bush family to the White House for a football game. The unusual suggestion, made on Usha Vance's podcast, stood out because Trump often attacks his predecessors.

US President Donald Trump has suggested inviting former presidents, including Barack Obama and Joe Biden, to the White House to watch a football game together. He made the remark on a podcast hosted by US Second Lady Usha Vance that was released on Friday ahead of the 250th anniversary of American Independence.
The suggestion came during an episode of Storytime with the Second Lady, in which Trump read President's Play!, a book published by the White House Historical Association. During the episode, he also spoke about how presidents spent their spare time, offered rare praise for former president Bill Clinton and made humorous comments about some past presidents.
As Trump turned to a page showing a president hosting a live viewing of the Super Bowl at the White House, he said the image had given him an idea. “Maybe I should invite Barack Hussein Obama, Joe Biden, with the Bushes - or Bush. Maybe I should invite some of those people to watch a football game together,” Trump said.
He then added, “Wouldn't that be a nice story? The press would go wild.” Vance responded, “A president reunion? That would be fun.” The remark was notable as Trump often criticises Obama and mocks Biden in his public speeches and press conferences.
The podcast features Vance interviewing guests as they narrate books to children on YouTube. The book read by Trump showed what presidents through American history liked to do in their free time. Speaking during the episode, Trump said, “You know, my attitude is you're at the White House for a short period of time and it's an honour to be here and you should work for the people, right?”
Trump also spoke warmly about Clinton after seeing a page showing him jogging on a track built during his time at the White House. “That's nice. I didn't even know that until recently, but he had a track built at the White House,” Trump said. He added, “I don't think I'll ever do that. I don't see myself doing that. I don't know. But he actually was a nice guy. I like Bill Clinton a lot. I still do.”
As he continued through the book, Trump made light-hearted remarks about other former presidents, including William Howard Taft, who was shown tossing a baseball. “He was a large man, very large. And he loved baseball. He'd go to baseball games, loved the hot dogs at the baseball games,” Trump said. He added, “He was our heaviest president, and I have to be careful 'cause I don't want to supersede his record. And a thing like that would be possible if I allowed it to happen.”
In the podcast released before the US marks 250 years of Independence, Trump used a children's book on presidents' pastimes to suggest a White House reunion with former presidents, while also reflecting on public service and commenting on past leaders.
