Imran Khan's sister questions reported hospital visit, seeks independent treatment
Aleema Khanum claimed the family learnt that her brother and former Prime Minister had been moved to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences on June 15 and rejected any hospital-issued medical reports.

Former Pakistan prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khanum has demanded an independent medical examination for the jailed leader, alleging that he was again taken to Islamabad’s Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and insisting that the family will not accept any medical report issued by the hospital regarding his health or eyesight.
In a statement posted on X, Aleema said the family received reports that Khan had been moved from Adiala Jail to PIMS in the early hours of June 15 and only learnt of the development through a social media post by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar later that morning.
"We have received reports that Imran Khan was again taken to PIMS in the early hours of 15 June. We found out through a tweet by Barrister Gohar on the morning of 15 June," she wrote on X.
"We reject any medical report generated by PIMS regarding Imran Khan’s condition," Aleema wrote, alleging that previous claims made by the institution had later been disputed.
She referred to earlier assertions that Khan had recovered 90 per cent of his eyesight, saying the claim was rejected by Imran Khan himself when his lawyer later met him in Adiala Jail.
Questioning the official account of Khan’s treatment, Aleema asked, "Why does Imran Khan require a fifth injection?"
She said the family remained unconvinced by the government’s explanation and demanded that the cricketer-turned-politician be examined and treated by independent, qualified specialists at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad.
IMRAN KHAN’S VISION LOSS CLAIMS
Aleema’s remarks come amid growing concerns over the 73-year-old former premier’s health, particularly his deteriorating eyesight.
In February, Khan was taken from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail to PIMS under heavy security for follow-up treatment related to vision loss.
According to official hospital statements issued after previous visits, Khan underwent intravitreal anti-VEGF injections — a specialised procedure used to treat retinal disease and preserve vision.
A medical board assessed him before treatment and declared him clinically stable, with normal cardiac findings.
However, PTI leaders and family members have continued to question the transparency of Khan’s treatment and access to information.
Khan’s son, Kasim Khan, earlier alleged that prolonged isolation and inadequate medical attention had severely affected his father’s eyesight, claiming that he had lost most of the vision in his right eye.
Aleema also accused authorities of failing to comply with court directives concerning family access to Khan.
Referring to a full bench order of the High Court, she said six family members are permitted to meet Khan every Tuesday but claimed authorities had largely ignored the order over the last eight months.
She added that her sister, Dr Uzma Khan, had only been allowed limited meetings, with the last taking place on December 2, 2025.
In her statement, Aleema alleged that isolation and deprivation were being used as pressure tactics against the former prime minister and called for immediate restoration of his rights.
She said, according to the jail manual, Imran Khan is entitled to:
- A weekly telephone call with his sons
- A weekly meeting with family members
- A weekly meeting with his legal counsel
- Access to books and reading material
- Access to television and newspapers
- Access to proper medical treatment and regular medical check-ups.
- Notification to immediate family members before any medical procedure is carried out.
She further cited High Court orders which, she said, provide that:
- Imran Khan must be allowed to speak with his sons by telephone
- Six family members and six lawyers may meet him every Tuesday
- Six friends, including party representatives, may meet him every Thursday
The Pakistani government and jail authorities have repeatedly maintained that Khan is receiving appropriate medical care and have dismissed rumours surrounding his health.
Aleema’s latest intervention is likely to intensify scrutiny over Khan’s medical treatment, prison conditions and compliance with court orders in the coming days.
