SCO border chiefs in Islamabad review security, approve Solidarity-2026 plan
Border officials from SCO member states, including India and Pakistan, met in Islamabad to review frontier assessments and coordination. Their approvals for future Solidarity operations signalled deeper cooperation against emerging cross-border threats.
Officials from the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) countries, including India and Pakistan, exchanged information and assessments on the situation along the international borders of member states at a meeting held on Friday. The discussions also covered future coordination and joint border operations among the member countries.
The 12th Meeting of the Heads of Border Services of the Competent Authorities of the SCO Member States was held in Islamabad under Pakistan's chairmanship, according to a statement by the Foreign Office. The meeting was attended by the heads and representatives of the border services of Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, the Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS).
The Foreign Office said, "The participants exchanged information and assessments regarding the situation along the international borders of the SCO Member States, as well as trends and forecasts relating to its development."
The participants discussed and approved the results of the Joint Border Operation "Solidarity-2025", carried out by the border services of the competent authorities of the SCO member states. They also considered and approved the plan for the preparation and conduct of the Joint Border Operation "Solidarity-2026" and approved the 2027 work plan of the Group of Experts of the Border Services of the Competent Authorities of the SCO member states.
The meeting also backed Tajikistan's proposal to host the Joint Border Operation "Solidarity-2027" in 2027. In addition, the participants discussed proposals related to the venue and timing of the next meeting of the Heads of Border Services of the Competent Authorities of the SCO member states.
The participants said that sharing views and developing common positions to counter emerging challenges and threats along the borders of SCO member states would help strengthen cooperation among their border services and improve security and mutual trust along their shared borders.
