US President Donald Trump said on Monday that a meeting on Iran would be held in Doha on Tuesday, without providing further details about the discussions.

In a post on social media, Trump said Iran had requested the meeting. "Iran has requested a meeting. It will take place tomorrow in Doha," Trump wrote in all capital letters.

The White House later said US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would attend the meeting in Doha. It also said technical talks would be held on the sidelines of the high-level talks. In an interview with Fox News, the White House said Trump wanted the peace process to play out.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said there were currently no plans to hold meetings between Iranian and US "technical teams" in Qatar this week.

"Although consultations with Qatar – including on following up on the implementation of the other party’s commitments – are ongoing as usual, the news from some media outlets that technical talks by the working groups will be held in Doha cannot be confirmed," Gharibabadi was quoted by the Tasnim news agency as saying.

He added that the first round of technical talks within the framework of the designated working groups would be held once conditions were met and after an agreement was reached on the date and location.

"Consultations in this regard are continuing through intermediary countries," Gharibabadi said

Earlier, on Tuesday, Axios reported that both sides have agreed to suspend all 'kinetic activity' while technical negotiations continue over the Strait of Hormuz. The development comes barely 11 days after Washington and Tehran announced the interim agreement to end months of conflict.

The truce was quickly thrown into doubt after both countries exchanged fresh strikes over competing interpretations of the deal.

Senior US officials confirmed that Washington and Tehran had agreed to suspend military operations ahead of Tuesday's meeting.

"We decided to stop all the kinetic activity," one senior US official told Axios.

A second official said both sides would stand down "for now" and added that "vessels can move freely" while technical discussions continue.

The meeting was initially planned in Switzerland as part of broader negotiations over Iran's nuclear programme. However, after fresh military exchanges over the weekend, diplomats shifted the venue to Doha and narrowed the agenda to resolving disputes surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
