Middle East Conflict: ran warns UK, France against military presence in Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi on Saturday warned that the Strait of Hormuz is not a 'theatre for the military display of extra-regional powers'", cautioning against any foreign military activity in the strategic waterway.

His remarks came after the UK and France said they were prepared to support freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on X, Gharibabadi said Iran, as the "responsible power and guarantor" of the strait's security, was closely monitoring any military movements in the region.

"Iran, as the responsible power and guarantor of the Strait's security, warns with sensitivity to any military movement in this waterway," he said.

Emphasising that the security of the Strait of Hormuz should remain the responsibility of the littoral states, Gharibabadi added, "The security of Hormuz lies with the coastal states; the crisis-makers will be held accountable for the consequences of their adventurism. This is a serious warning."

Ali Khamenei's funeral: Iranian MP alleges online campaign sought to deter turnout at Khamenei's funeral

An Iranian lawmaker has alleged that a "suspicious" campaign on social media sought to discourage people from attending the funeral of the country's late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, by warning of large crowds.

In a post on X on Friday, Iranian MP Morteza Mahmoudi claimed that the online narrative began circulating on Thursday and was aimed at reducing public participation in the funeral ceremonies.

"Since yesterday in cyberspace, a suspicious narrative emerged to prevent people from attending the funeral ceremony of the Leader under the pretext of crowd congestion, which has quickly spread!" Mahmoudi wrote.

He urged people to attend the ceremony, saying a massive turnout would send a message to Iran's adversaries.

"But the passionate and prudent presence of people from across the country at this historic ceremony will humiliate and expose the foreign enemies and their domestic mercenaries," he added.

Mahmoudi did not provide evidence to support his claim. His remarks came as thousands of mourners gathered in Tehran for Khamenei's funeral, with authorities imposing extensive traffic restrictions and heightened security across the capital amid expectations of a massive public turnout.

Middle East Conflict: Iran's Parliament Speaker hits back at Trump over food claim

Iranian Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has lashed out at US President Donald Trump's recent remarks suggesting Iran would rely on American agricultural imports under any future peace deal.

In an interview with CNBC on Thursday, Trump reiterated his claim that Iran would purchase food products from the United States, despite Tehran repeatedly rejecting the assertion.

"They need food. They need corn and wheat and soya beans, and we're going to have our American farmers exclusively provide," Trump told the US broadcaster.

Responding on X a few hours later, Ghalibaf dismissed Trump's comments, accusing him of projecting America's own domestic challenges onto Iran.

"Imagine having 40-something million of your own citizens on food stamps and calling another nation hungry," Ghalibaf wrote.

"This is not a proclamation. This is a projection. Keep your SNAP advice," he added.

"Our assets, our choices. Mind your malnutrition rates."

According to the US Department of Agriculture, more than 42 million Americans participated in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programme (SNAP), commonly known as the food stamp programme, last year.
