Six commercial vessels attempted to sail on an "illegal and unsafe" route in the south of the conflict-hit Strait of Hormuz after turning off their navigation and positioning systems, according to a report by Iran's IRIB state broadcaster cited by Al Jazeera.

One of the ships got into an accident, and the others returned to the Gulf under "decisive Iranian management," IRIB reported.

Citing an official, the Iranian broadcaster further said the incident took place in the early hours of Monday morning after the vessels were provoked by the US military.
