Following the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire signed in the United States, the Lebanese Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, vowed full control over the capital, Beirut and said that the state would restrict the use of arms only to the forces.

"The government's decision regarding the tightening of the state's full control over Beirut Governorate, and confining arms within it to the legitimate forces alone, to safeguard the safety, security, and property of citizens, issued on the ninth of this month, is irrevocable and will be strictly enforced. This was confirmed today to Beirut's parliamentary representatives regarding the meeting held yesterday under the slogan "Secure and Weapon-Free Beirut," he wrote on X.

President Donald Trump said the United States has ​barred Israel from further bombing in Lebanon, striking an unusually harsh tone with the longtime US ally while stressing that any U.S. deal ‌with Iran is not linked to the Lebanon conflict.

"Israel will not be bombing Lebanon any longer. They are PROHIBITED from doing so by the U.S.A. Enough is enough!!!" Trump said in a social media post.

The development came after Iran opened the Strait of Hormuz on Friday.

"The Strait of Hormuz is completely open and ready for business and full passage, but the naval blockade will remain in full force and effect as it pertains to Iran, only, until such time as our transaction with Iran is 100% complete. This process should go very quickly in that most of the points are already negotiated. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President Donald J. Trump"

During a meeting with Beirut MPs, Aoun emphasized that the government's immediate priorities involve consolidating the current ceasefire, securing the exit of Israeli forces from occupied southern zones, recovering captives, and resolving long-standing border disputes. Describing the ceasefire as a critical "gateway to advancing negotiations," the President noted that this security transition is bolstered by both domestic support and the international community.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed his gratitude to Pakistan for its efforts to secure a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, Al-Jazeera reported, citing the IRNA news agency.

The President appreciated the efforts of Asim Munir and Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif to secure the truce.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister, Saeed Khatibzadeh, said that Tehran rejects a temporary ceasefire and seeks a larger resolution that would include all the conflicting zones to put an end to the prevailing conflict.

According to a Turkish diplomatic source, the primary objective is to develop "regional solutions to regional issues" under a strategy of regional ownership. Turkey is leveraging its unique position as a NATO member and a direct neighbour of Iran to maintain active communication with Washington and Tehran, while working closely with Pakistan in its capacity as a key mediator.

France and Britain will chair a meeting on Friday of around 40 countries aimed at signalling to the United States that some of its closest allies are ready to play a role in restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz once conditions allow.

Iran has largely closed the Strait to ships other than its own since the start of U.S.-Israeli airstrikes against it on February 28. On Monday, Washington imposed a blockade on ships entering or leaving Iranian ports.

US President Donald Trump has called on other countries to help enforce the blockade and has criticised NATO allies for not doing so.

Britain, France and others say joining the blockade would amount to entering the war, but they have said they would be willing to help keep the strait open once there was a lasting ceasefire or the conflict ended.

The initiative being discussed does not, for now, include the United States or Iran, though European diplomats said any realistic mission would ultimately need to be coordinated with both. Washington will be briefed on the outcome of the talks.

A local government official in Beirut’s southern suburb of Haret Hreik said Israel struck the neighborhood 62 times over the past six weeks.

Haret Hreik Deputy Mayor Sadek Slim said 26 buildings were completely destroyed.

"We've been able to clear up the rubble of the partially damaged buildings, but for those totally destroyed we will need special equipment," Slim said in a news briefing under a bridge on a busy intersection.

The area is gridlocked with traffic with people returning to check on their homes and Hezbollah supporters zooming around on scooters and waving the militant group’s flag.

Pakistan has started preparing to host the second round of high-stakes talks between Iran and the US during the upcoming week for a landmark peace deal to end the current war in West Asia, officials said on Friday, news agency PTI reported.

According to officials in Islamabad, cited by PTI, "preparations have started in Islamabad and neighbouring Rawalpindi as thousands of police and paramilitary personnel have started coming from other provinces."
