Couple found dead in guest house after 20-day stay. Then a kidnapping case twist
Amit Kumar, 22, and Nargis alias Pooja, 19, were found dead in a Lucknow guest house room after staying there for nearly 20 days.
A 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were found dead in a guest house room in Lucknow on Wednesday, nearly 20 days after they had checked in.
Police identified the man as Amit Kumar and the woman as Nargis. The couple had been staying at the Red Building Guest House in Lucknow’s Chinhat police station area since August 23.
According to police, guest house operator Rakesh Yadav informed them over the phone that a young man and woman staying in room number 101 had allegedly died by suicide. A police team immediately reached the guest house.
Police said the couple had allegedly used a dupatta to hang themselves from the hook of the ceiling fan. The bodies were brought down and sent to Lohia Hospital for post-mortem examination after inquest proceedings.
Guest house records showed that Amit and Nargis had been staying in room number 101 since August 23.
KIDNAPPING CASE REVEALED
When police contacted the couple’s families in Hardoi, they learnt that a kidnapping case had been registered at Harpalpur police station involving Nargis.
According to police, the families had not received any information about the couple after they went missing.
Police also recovered an Arya Samaj marriage certificate from the guest house room. The certificate stated that Amit and Nargis had married and identified the woman as “Nargis alias Pooja”.
A suicide note was also recovered from the room.
Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths, including what led the couple to take the extreme step.
Police official Diksha Sharma said officers received information on the night of September 9 that a young man and woman had died by suicide at a guest house in the Chinhat area. Police reached the spot and brought the bodies down before taking them to the hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Sharma said a Forensic Science Laboratory team examined the scene and collected evidence. Police also recovered the marriage certificate and suicide note from the room.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway.
