Cow dung powder in sambar: Man's revenge after wife sacked by school

A man has been arrested in Tamil Nadu's Erode district after he allegedly coerced a student to mix powdered cow dung into sambar prepared under the state’s free breakfast scheme at a government school.

Police have arrested Arumugam under Section 123 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc, with intent to commit an offence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the incident.
He allegedly coerced a student into contaminating the food after his wife was fired from her job over the quality of her cooking.
Police sources said teachers tasted the food items before they were served to students and noticed that the sambar tasted unusually bitter. They initially suspected that excess turmeric may have been accidentally added by the school cook.
The cow dung powder had been mixed only in the sample portion kept aside for teachers to taste, and the food meant for students was not affected, the police added.
The incident occurred on August 29, while a complaint was lodged with the police on September 1.
