According to the police, the confrontation rapidly escalated as both groups were involved in abusing and threatening each other, and resorting to physical violence. The situation also led to traffic disruption in the area, police told PTI.
Following the incident, police registered a case against more than 40 people, including a few influential local figures, from both sides.
Besides the physical altercation and public disturbance, officials also cited several statutory violations, including the unauthorised use of loudspeakers without prior permission.
