Bihar molestation case: Accused's arrest reveals father's involvement in 2003 murder
Police detained Ganouri Yadav while raiding his home for absconding son Nandan Yadav in Jamui molestation case. The custody revealed his pending role in a 2003 double-murder case.
The father of Nandan Yadav, the main accused in the molestation and assault of a girl in Bihar's Jamui, has now been arrested in connection with a 2003 double-murder case after remaining absconding for nearly 23 years, police said. His role in the more than two-decade-old murder came to light during the probe against Nandan in the Jamui molestation case.
The father, Ganouri Yadav, was named as an accused in the killing of two brothers, Poona Yadav and DP Yadav, in 2003. The brothers were beaten and shot dead following a land dispute.
Ganouri's arrest came while police were searching for his son Nandan, who had been absconding after a case was registered over the alleged assault and obscene acts involving two minors.
Police detained several members of Nandan’s family during a raid at their house in Jamui. Ganouri was among those taken into custody. During verification, police found that he was wanted in the 2003 double-murder case.
He was subsequently arrested in connection with the old case and is expected to be produced before a court and sent to judicial custody.
While some of the other accused have already served their sentences, Ganouri remained absconding for nearly 23 years.
NANDAN IDENTIFIED FROM VIRAL VIDEO
Nandan was among the men identified from a video that went viral on social media and showed a group surrounding, harassing and assaulting two minor students in Jamui.
Nandan can be seen in the footage covering his face while assaulting the Class 10 girl and the boy. He was arrested after an encounter with police on Tuesday.
The incident took place on the evening of September 19, when the two teenagers, who were friends and attended the same coaching institute, were returning on a scooter after visiting a nearby hill station.
The group intercepted them, abused them and forced them off the vehicle. The teenagers reportedly tried to flee but were chased by the men.
The video that later surfaced online appeared to show the girl being harassed and assaulted, while the boy was also subjected to physical assault. The circulation of the footage on social media triggered widespread outrage and led to intensified efforts by police to identify and arrest the accused.
