1971 war was different, we had clear cut victory over Pakistan: Ex-Army chief Gen Chowdhury

The 1971 Bangladesh liberation war was different from other victories of the Indian armed forces because it was war in which India defeated Pakistan completely and secured a clear cut victory, said former India Army chief Gen Shankar Roy Chowdhury. Gen Chowdhury was speaking at a session on the 1971 war at the India Today Conclave East in Kolkata on Friday. He was joined by two other 1971 war veterans Col (retd) Ashok Kumar Tara and Lt Col (retd) Quazi Sazzad Ali Zahir.

Couldn't see people being slaughtered: Ex-Pak army officer on why he helped India in 1971 war 

Lt Col (retd) Quazi Sazzad Ali Zahir was one of the heroes of the 1971 war against Pakistan but his contribution was unique. He was an officer in the Pakistan Army but crossed the border and shared vital information, including maps of major Pakistan Army formations, with the Indian Army to help it in the war. He was one of the panellist at a session on the 1971 war at the India Today Conclave East.

Speaking at the India Today Conclave-East, CPI(M) leader claimed that the BJP and TMC are invoking Ram and Durga as part of a thought-out plan to prevent development from becoming the main agenda in the upcoming state polls. Targeting TMC and BJP, Congress leader Pawan Khera said that Bengal is watching and development can’t be a footnote in the upcoming Assembly election.
