IIT Bombay mid-sem exams shifted to October 10-11, timetable unchanged
IIT Bombay has postponed its mid-semester examinations from September 26 and 27 to October 10 and 11 while retaining the same timetable. The change comes after Sahil Wakode's death triggered campus protests, an 18-point charter of demands and an internal review.

Published byThe Indian Institute of Techology (IIT) Bombay has postponed its mid-semester examinations that were earlier scheduled for September 26 and 27. According to a notice issued by the institute, the exams will now be held on October 10 and 11, with the same timetable.
The examinations were originally scheduled for Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27. The revised dates are Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11.
The institute informed students about the change through an official communication, stating that the examinations would be conducted on the new dates while following the same timetable.
IIT BOMBAY EXAMS POSTPONED AMID CAMPUS DEVELOPMENTS
The announcement comes days after the death of 22-year-old IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode on September 18 triggered protests on the Powai campus and raised questions around examination procedures and student welfare.
Wakode, a second-year BTech student in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, died by suicide hours after an incident during a mid-semester examination. A fresh CCTV footage from the campus showed Wakode being questioned and subsequently leaving the examination hall between around 12:30 pm and 12:45 pm. The footage is being examined by the Mumbai Crime Branch as part of its investigation.
The incident also led to student protests and an 18-point charter of demands submitted to IIT Bombay Director Professor Shireesh Kedare. The demands included an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Wakode's death, reforms to disciplinary procedures, greater student representation and improved student support systems.
With the revised schedule, students who were preparing for the September 26 and 27 examinations will now appear for the mid-semester exams on October 10 and 11.
The institute has specified that the same timetable will be followed, meaning the change concerns the examination dates rather than the existing schedule of papers.
Students are advised to follow further official communications from IIT Bombay for any additional instructions regarding the examinations.
